Prince Alois of Liechtenstein visits India
Welcoming Price Alois to India, the President said that his visit is very special as the two countries are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
India – Liechtenstein Relations
- India and the Principality of Liechtenstein established diplomatic relations in 1993.
- The Ambassador of India to Switzerland, resident in Berne, is concurrently accredited as
- Ambassador of India to the Principality of Liechtenstein.
- Despite its small size, Liechtenstein assumes importance on account of its membership of UN and other International Organizations as well as of European Economic Area (EEA) and EFTA (Switzerland, Norway and Iceland).
- The EEA forms a single market for the free movement of persons, goods, services and capital through three of the four-member states of the EFTA and all EU member states, altogether encompassing 30 countries and over 500 million people.

13th convention of the Central Information Commission
The President of India inaugurated the 13th Convention of the Central Information Commission in New Delhi.
The Convention deliberated on three specific subjects –
- Data privacy and Right to Information,
- Amendment in the RTIAct and
- Implementation of the RTI Act
The annual convention is aimed at recommending measures for improving transparency and accountability with a view to improve governance.
Along with RTI activists, all the current and former Chief Information Commissioners and Information Commissioners of the CIC, State Information Commission, Central public information officers participated in the convention.
Silver Jubilee Foundation Day Function of NHRC
The Prime Minister addressed the Silver Jubilee Foundation Day function of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The National Human Rights Commission, which has served as a “watchdog of democracy” and been part of some landmark cases in which its intervention had significant impact, completed 25 years.
Postal cover and stamp released, besides the launching of a new version of the commission’s website.
The commission was established on October 12, 1993 under the Protection of the Human Rights (PHR) Act, 1993.
The NHRC, in the run up to the jubilee, has already hosted a number of programmes, including an international conclave on human rights, panel discussion on role of media in context of human rights, painting competition and slogan and logo making contest.
The panel had recently unveiled its special silver jubilee logo and also commissioned a documentary, titled ‘NHRC: 25 years, Billion Hopes’ capturing the 25 years of its journey, from its humble beginning in Sardar Patel Bhawan.
The film captures the journey of the NHRC from its humble beginning in 1993 to its present stature, references some of the landmark cases in which NHRC’s intervention had made significant impact and the back story of how the redressal system works.
